Gerald Gentry is a former Staff Conductor of the BBC Orchestras. For many years he was responsible for
radio, television and public concerts.
He has lived in Australia for many years. His many artistic friends included
Percy Grainger and Cyril Scott of the Frankfurt Five. Walter Goehr, a member of the
New Viennese School
and pupil of Schoenberg, was his mentor.
Gerald Gentry has worked with notable composers including Vaughan Williams, Roberto Gerard, Elizabeth Lutyens,
Sir Arthur Bliss, Samuel Barber, John Ireland,
Andrzej Panufnik and Hindemith.
Some of his artistic associations have included Sir Thomas Beecham, Isaac Stern, Dame Joan Sutherland, Eileen Joyce,
Dennis Brain, Laurence Olivier,
Donald Pleasance and Sir John Gielgud.
Gerald Gentry is particularly passionate about presenting the musical works
of Australian past and present composers.
